My Studio, My Haven
Share
When we bought our house 2021, we were told that it included a sitting room. This is best defined as a spacious "hallway" on our second floor. It has been used as an office, a playroom, and now is a space for my creative endeavors - my studio.
There are two desks; one for creating and the other for administrative tasks. My creative desk is dedicated to my projects. The top is large and spacious, perfect for big pieces with plenty of room for strewn about paints and palettes. I have brushes and frequently used mediums readily available on top of the desk. The three drawers hold my favorite art supplies - colored pencils, gouache, high-flow acrylics, inks, and pens, plus mixed-media and watercolor paper.
My administrative desk serves as a home for my laptop, important papers, and items that I sell. My prints, cards, and other merchandise is safe from paint, as I sometimes get messy when I'm working on a new illustration. If you look closely, you'll notice prints that I've bought from other local creatives. You'll also find books and graphic novels resting on the top shelf, as this desk doubles as a book case, too. An item that I inherited from my late father, this desk is just as loved as my other one.
The rest of the space houses my original art, a couple house plants, some knick-knacks, and a small whiteboard-chalkboard easel for my children. Although it's not a grand studio, it is mine, and it is special. Having a dedicated space, no matter the size, is a blessing.
